Creation

What is creation? I believe creation is a spontaneous re-combination of energy. Some people believe God created everything in the universe. But is God part of the universe? If so, how could he create it? Did he create himself? If he is outside the universe, who created God?

In my reality, everything is made of energy. Energy can take many forms, only a tiny portion of which we as feeble humans are even able to contemplate, let alone understand. To us, we observe the universe, and "see" that it is expanding, so we theorize that if it's expanding, it must at one time have been smaller, which if you follow this idea back far enough in time, you reach the end ... or The Beginning, the point at which nothing became something. One popular theory is the Big Bang theory, which sort of explains how the universe got to be expanding in the first place. But it doesn't explain how The Beginning came to be.

In my theory, The Beginning was merely a random re-arrangement of energy from the form of "nothingness" into another form of energy, "light". At any given time and place in the universe, "creation" is always happening. Imagine the universe is shaped like a giant donut, with an energy filling. This energy is always in a state of flux, shifting from one form to another. Then imagine you take an infinitesimally small slice out of this donut. This is our reality, our observable universe. What we see is a snapshot in time and space, and all our theories are based on this very incomplete information. If, however, you were to take a slice from another part of the donut, you would likely observe something very different. Instead of the universe expanding it might appear to be shrinking, or it might not even appear to exist at all! Life as we know it would be different, perhaps methane-based instead of carbon-based, light would not be light, matter would not be matter and we would be very, very homesick.

One interesting thing about my theory is that it supports both a Biblical-type creation theory of the universe, and evolution theory. Perhaps "creation" is just a reflection of evolution on a universal scale. After all, evolution is just a spontaneous re-arrangement of energy which happens to be called mutation. So maybe "creation" is really the same thing?

The big problem with my theory, of course, is that it still doesn't explain where the energy came from. But maybe the idea of a beginning is just something us humans need in order to grasp reality. Maybe there really is no such thing, kind of like there is really no such thing as infinity.
