Today I am feeling: Terminated

Books I am reading:
Splintered Light: Logos and Language in Tolkien's World Verilyn Flieger
Soul Stories Gary Zukav
A Wizard of Earthsea Ursula LeGuin

Games I am playing:
Neverwinter Nights
Monopoly Tycoon

I went out to breakfast this morning and noticed that there was a sprig of parsley on my plate. Then I started thinking how odd it was that restaurants still use parsley as a garnish. I mean, does anyone really care? Would they complain if the parsley was missing? How much money do restaurants spend on parsley in their annual budget? How many landfills have been stuffed with uneaten parsley? How many rabbits have starved to death because parsley farmers grow parsley for human non-consumption instead of bunny snacks? Would the economy collapse if every American restaurant suddenly decided not to serve parsley anymore? Welcome to my brain before 9am.

I had sushi for lunch today, and shared some sushi rice with my cat, since I read on a vegetarian website that cats love rice. Who woulda thought? She kinda liked it, but sushi rice is sticky and well, she kinda kept pawing at it and it would stick to her paw, then she'd flick it off, then lick it, then paw it, then flick and lick, etc, for a few minutes. I think she couldn't decide if it was a toy or a snack. She did eventually eat it though, so I gave her a bit of shrimp and salmon to reward her, so now I have likely created a rice flickin' cat.

I somehow got a small cut on the end of my thumb, I don't remember getting it but it's in a bad place, cuz thumbs get in the way a lot, and you use them for a lot of things, and everytime I eat something salty it hurts like hell. So, in desperation, I put a bit of gauze around it and wrapped it in plastic to waterproof it. Still hurts a little but keeps the salt out.

Uhm ... lemme see, new year, yeah, 2004 uhm ... no resolutions cuz I never keep them anyway, but I'm tying to do the usual stuff, eat healthier, exercise more, read more, study more, clean more, etc. I should put "make more money" in there too, cuz 2003 was the first year since I was a teen that I haven't worked at all, so for the first time in my adult life I won't be getting a tax refund this year! Well, actually there was one year in the Clinton era I didn't get one either cuz Butthead Bill changed the tax withholding laws and I ended up owing the IRS, which was bad cuz I needed that refund and I ended up owing something like $400 which I had to pay in installments with huge amounts of interest, which is why I despise Bill Clinton. (Well, not the only reason, but one of them.) But 2003 was the only year I didn't earn any income therefore I didn't earn a refund either waaaah. I'm still not sure if I have to report my financial aid, but even if I do, I'm still gonna be way under the "need to pay taxes" thingie. Ah, the joys of poverty!

Oh, and the reason why I'm feeling Terminated today is cuz I was flipping channels and found Celebrity Poker and after that the movie The Terminator was on so I started watching it, and since our governor here in California is a Terminator, erm Governator, I felt obliged. I didn't realize this movie is twenty years old, and Arnie looks pretty damn good in it compared to those pix they showed of him on a beach during the campaign last year.

Join my team and BOINC with me! But make sure you turn your screensaver off so it doesn't take you 75+ hours to complete one workunit.

In other news, 2003 is almost over yay! Actually it wasn't a bad year, not like 1993 which was the worst year of my life, thanks in part to Bill Clinton but that's another topic. Grocery strike is still going on, I am still crossing picket lines (great bargains at Pavilions yesterday, total contrast to the jacked up prices at Ralphs and Albertsons and Stater Brothers, not to mention the out of stock items at Staters.) I even bought and ate perishable items and lived! Whee! Cat is becoming a wimpy stay at home cat, which I guess is ok, but I think it's just that it's too cold for her outside, she doesn't have a winter coat poor thing, and she's skinny so lacks insulating body fat. Uhm ... it was supposed to rain yesterday but the storm decided to stay off shore grrrr. I did my spring cleaning yesterday, yeah a bit late, I know, but the dust bunnies were getting outta hand, but that made my cat mad because I killed all her "pets". Twenty six days left of vacation, and I've still not done anything I was going to do, like catch up on reading (well I have started reading a couple books, but I should have finished at least one by now.) Uhm ... lemme see, what else ... oh, one of my internet friends is teaching me to play Bridge ... it involves math ... 'nuff said. Oh! And I got one of those inflatable "yoga balls" and I really like it hehee. Sorta reminds me of those big balls with the handle on them you bounced on as a kid, I forget what they were called, but I liked those, and damn I just made myself feel really old. Oh, that and I watched an Elton John concert on television last night and damn that took me WAY back, to the days of radio (pre-MTV) and Elton was my '"first" favorite music star, I used to spend my allowance every week on LPs (see? Old!)

That's about it for my year end roundup. Pretty pathetic huh? Happy New Year, don't Drink if you Drive, don't Drive if you Drink, stay away from mosh pits and snake pits and wear a bullet proof helmet if you're going out.
