Saturday, December 13, 2003 Today I am feeling:
Books I am reading: How to Speak, Read, and Write Elvish When You Should Be Studying For Finals aka Ardalambion which isn't really a book it's a webpage, but hey, close enough Games I am playing: the university of life bureaucracy game Well, the elvish obsession has begun anew, the third installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy comes out next week, and, despite the fact I have finals both the day before and the two days after it opens, I will likely go see it. Until then, I am learning a wee bit of elvish, so when I explain to my teachers why I am late for the final, they will understand, yannow? I haven't found a resource yet with the word "obsession" but I'm working on it. So, keeping with the elvish thing, my mood indicator for the next few days will be in Elvish, or rather Quenya, so if you don't know how to read it or anything, mayhaps this and this and this and this will help. And if you need help writing it, try this. In other news, as I said finals are coming, finals are coming and I've got one major art project to do that I haven't even started on (well unless ya count the sketch, which of course sucks, so bad in fact, the teacher had to HELP me yesterday "fix" it) and then a dumb typography project that I don't wanna do but at least I get to use the computer to do the lettering yay. Plus I've got to study for finals, which I really should be doing now instead of writing in my blog, but alas I don't feel like studying. In family stuff, which I know I rarely talk about, but hey here goes, my step-dad is sick yet again and in the hospital yet again. My mom was on Jury Duty last week and of course, the fates decided that would be a good time to make my step-dad sick, seeing as that would re-inforce my mother's idea that she alone is responsible for keeping the Earth from spinning out of control by staying at home and watching Court TV all day. So, she got a real chance to watch Court TV only it wasn't TV, and she was on the jury for some trial she can't talk about oooh. Anyway, step-dad was home and being a man, unable to take care of himself hehe. He didn't feel well so went to bed, and mom thought he just had a cold or flu or something, and that he seemed fine and my step-brother who was there too thought the same. But it turns out it wasn't just a cold or flu it was a brain hemorrhage. Actually, two of them. Lovely. So, early this morning he had surgery and I dunno how he is yet, but my mom called and they said he was "awake" so she'll go see him later and I probably should go but then it would turn into an all day ordeal and I really should be studying for finals cuz I don't wanna blow an entire semester. Grrrr.... So, I've got finals stress and family stress and eek my step-dad might die stress (he's had close calls before, but he is old and feeble and had been "sick" for a few days and not eaten much of anything so he's weak to boot, and a bleeding brain doesn't sound all that hopeful, but we shall see.) The good news is that this thing isn't spontaneous so much as it's apparently related to his medication that he takes because he had a heart valve replaced a few years ago and is on blood thinners and apparently his blood got too thin which is why his brain leaked. So, it is controllable hopefully and not as bad as having a leak inside your brain that just happens. Maybe this will get him to take his doctor's orders more seriously though, cuz his doctor has been on his case majorly to get him to pay attention to what he eats cuz certain foods mess up your Coumadin levels big time (like avocados.) Oh and apparently my mom's dog has developed a limp, too, to add to the family troubles. Karma must be biting today. Maybe I should pray to "God" to forgive us for ignoring him. <snicker> BTW, the Blogger.com spellchecker doesn't know the word "blog", odd no?

Sunday, December 07, 2003 Today I am feeling: bored
Books I am reading: none right now but soon, very soon, it's reading catch-up time! Games I am playing: the university of life bureaucracy game It's raining today. Normally I love rain, but unfortunately, I have a cat who doesn't. So kitty is cooped up inside today and driving me buggy, which makes it hard to do my homework ... especially my art homework, because kitty wants to help. So, I've only done one short paper today and worked on a sketch for my final rendering project which was actually due last Friday but I couldn't decide what I wanted to do, so true to my indecisive nature, I did nothing. So, now I'm behind, and gotta get not only my sketch done, but my color rough and value study done by this coming Friday, and if I'm smart, I'll start working on my final version too, because otherwise I might not finish on time. Fortunately, our teacher is giving us a work session next Friday, for once, so we'll get a few hours there to work which is good. Too bad we don't get a work session every week, cuz at school is the only cat-free, well-lit, interruption-free place I have to work. Bah. Anyway, school is almost out, and all I have left to do this semester is finish this rendering project and a project for my typography class which is pretty easy and lame all at once, and then I gotta "study" for my finals, which means basically flipping through my notes the night before. As long as I don't blow any of my finals I should get at least 2 and probably 3 A's in my lecture classes, too bad my art classes aren't that easy. Oh well. If I really want to I can re-do some of my art projects, but I probably won't bother, I don't think it would help that much. Lemme see, what else ... I went to the grocery store again yesterday, but this time I went to Ralphs, because I just didn't feel like flirting with picketers ... erm I mean, arguing with picketers. I swear, every time I go into Ralphs, they've jacked their prices up even more. I was gonna buy some bottled water, but when I saw they wanted me to me pay $5 for a 6-pack I was like uhm ... no thanks, I'll just drink toilet water, thanks. So, I stocked up on soda instead. I now am the proud owner of 5 12-packs of soda. Eeek. That'll last me probably a whole week! Hehe. Yeah. I still haven't decided if I'm gonna work over the winter break. I don't want to, but I should. What I want to do is just sit around and read, play video games and watch videos all day for a month. But if I work then I'll have a few bucks to save up so I won't have to work as hard next summer. So, we shall see, I hear the grocery stores are hiring <veg> Oh! My cat has learned a new trick: she can clean out the bathtub now. She goes in there, catches all the bugs, and then sweeps all the hair, lint and miscellaneous junk outta there with her tail and eats it. Ugh. Well, I guess ya can't complain about free labor. If I could just teach her to scrub the soap scum off I'd be really happy. Now, if she'd just clean the floor too ....
