Friday, October 31, 2003 Today I am feeling: astromorgorified
Books I am reading: The Shock of the New Robert Hughes Human Variation Stephen Molnar Who is Black? F. James Davis Literature of the Western World Brian Wilkie/James Hurt Games I am playing: Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings [online RPG] The Sims: Makin' Magic HAPPY HALLOWEEN! The skies have cleared, the smoke is gone and it even rained, yay! Back to normal at last. I went to the grocery store today. I was gonna go to Stater Bros. but it was so damn crowded I couldn't find a parking place so I went down the street to Albertsons but there were a buncha high school kiddies around, and too many strikers, so I went on down to Ralphs thinking it would be deserted since it's one of the "lock out" stores. But alas, there were no strikers, how odd. I thought maybe they wimped out or maybe joined the ones by Albertsons (speaking of which, I find it amusing that during the hot and smoky weather, the strikers dwindled, but now that the weather is nice, they're out again ... I guess they only "care" about their cause when it's not too "hard".) Anyway, no strikers at Ralph's and it was busier than normal (usually this Ralphs is pretty deserted, but now there were PEOPLE there grrr.) I find it annoying that the union is telling people to go to the sucky stores no one used to shop at and tell 'em to stay away from the good stores, which I guess is the point, but now all my favorite quiet peaceful don't-have-to-wait-in-line stores are busy grrr. Oh well, I do feel kinda dirty for "supporting" the strike though, cuz apparently the union decided to take away the pickets from Ralphs today (which I didn't know until I got home) cuz it was too much of an inconvenience to piss off the shoppers. I guess they realized their strike wasn't working cuz no one cared anymore, so they eased off. This of course won't stop me from shopping wherever I feel like it though. BTW, the parking lot at Albertson's looked kinda full too, not sure if it was shoppers or what though, since I didn't go in there, but I do have some more shopping to do this weekend so I might check it out. Anyway, I must go now, my magical sims are calling me and I have a light homework load this weekend (finally.)

Sunday, October 26, 2003 Today I am feeling: asphyxiated

It's a smoky day in southern California, brushfires are burning all over, fortunately not really close to where I am, but I woke up this morning to put the cat out and noticed that the sunrise looked more like a sunset with a big red sun in the sky behind the smoke-filled air. Unfortunately, my digital camera doesn't really do it justice, the sun was much redder than in the picture above. The air smelled like smoke too, and there were ashes all over the ground: In cat news, the bughunter has taken to not only catching bugs, but collecting them. She found this weird looking green beetle thing: I dunno what it is. It looks sorta like those scarab beetles you see in Egyptian art, but I've never seen one around here. Kinda pretty anyway. That's all the news for now, I gotta go do homework now. <mutter>
