Literature of the Western World Brian Wilkie/James Hurt

Games I am playing:
Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings [online RPG]

In my Human Variation class at the moment we are studying genetics (well, sorta, actually we're just doing those punnet squares and stuff) but we use "real life" examples to work out who inherits what so I've been walking around campus lately thinking "ooh, he's homozygous recessive for Darwin's Tubercle" and stuff like that. Yeah, I'm weird.

In cat news, it seems my little naughty wandering feline has befriended the people next door ... apparently, she wandered uninvited into their house to "play" with their elderly near-blind microscopic dog. Fortunately, the neighbors said "Awww, how cute!" instead of "Dammit cat! Get the hell outta my house!" They may change their mind once they realize she likes to surreptitiously destroy furniture and snatch trolls. Mayhaps I should warn my neighbors.

Today I am feeling: chilly

Ah, 'tis October, my favorite month, when the weather changes from hazy and partly-overcast to foggy in the morning and hazy and partly-overcast during the day. Gotta love California. Anyway, a wee chill is in the air, and my cat is getting her "winter" coat.

Lemme see, what's happened since last I blogged ... uhm ... cable company upped my internet speed from an embarassingly low 256/64kps to 2mpbs/128, for "no additional cost" ... until April that is. Heh. Oh well, I got a pretty good deal I only pay $24.95/mo. Muhahaha. So, even if they up the cost to say $39.99/mo in April it's still not too bad. Of course, at least one other cable ISP that raised its speed shortly went outta business, so we shall see.

School wise, I had my first test (well, quiz) this week, in my Human Variation class. I got an 87.5. Not too bad, especially considering most people in my class did very poorly, so poorly in fact the teacher was making funny faces. But I know anthropology teachers are sneaky on their tests, they put stuff like "all of the above" or "only A and C" and stuff, so ya gotta really know the material, not just be sorta vaguely familiar with it. It was kinda funny though, people in the class were actually whining about how she worded the questions. She drops our lowest quiz score though, so I dunno what the big deal is.

I also got my first rendering assignment back. I got a B-, which actually is a bit better than I thought I'd get cuz I really suck at the whole "rendering in graphite without showing pencil marks" thing. So, I'm a bit relieved, I was kinda stressed how she'd grade stuff cuz she seems pretty picky about precision in class, and there are a lotta really good artists in the class, and comparatively, I suck. No more easy A's in art for me. Waaaah. But my skills should improve quite a bit this semester, nothing like peer pressure and challenges to improve your skills.

Lemme see, what else, uhm ... other classes are going ok, I kinda am not liking my literature class, but it's mostly cuz the teacher is one of those type A people and she makes us participate all the time, plus the material is kinda hard to understand, I mean, how am I supposed to know how some French poet's poem about a dead decaying animal is really about a past love affair? I mean, I can appreciate the poetry for its aesthetic value but the symbolic stuff kinda goes over my head.

That's about it I think ... cat is still alive ... sleeping a lot more ... well, that is sleeping until 4am when she wakes me up by repeatedly knocking items off my desk or trying to squeeze into the narrow gap between my monitor and desk wall and then crying because she can't figure out how to get back out again.
