Sunday, August 24, 2003 Today I am feeling: hot
Books I am reading: The Giver Lois Lowry Games I am playing: Asheron's Call [online RPG] Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings [online RPG] The cat got a bath today. Well, not really a "bath" but more of a "dip in the bathtub to cool her off" kinda thing. The poor cat pants like crazy when it's hot and today she was panting really hard poor thing, so I decided to traumatize her further and put her in the bathtub. Actually, she didn't seem to mind it that much, she didn't want to go in the water, but she didn't mind me taking a wet washcloth and wetting her down, which is what I did. It seemed to help. I dunno if there's something wrong with this cat or what, but I've never had a cat who pants when it gets over 85 degrees. A hundred degrees, yeah, but 85? She is dark colored though, and I think she gets it worse when she's out running around outside in the sun, I've noticed she kinda runs from shady spot to shady spot, panting and resting at each "pit stop". I think next time I take her in to the vet (booster shots are coming up in a month or so, yay!) I'll mention it him. They did say she had a borderline "fever" when I had her fixed, but they watched her for awhile and she seemed healthy, and she didn't have odd results in the bloodtest, but vet did say it was odd for temperature to go that high from "stress". Who knows, maybe she has some weird defect or disease or something, but she's been like this since she was a kitten, and maybe that's part of it, maybe her "system" isn't fully developed yet, but she is 11 months old now. I decided to buy AC2 since AC still sucks so bad. I'm gonna cancel my AC subscription at end of the month and it'll be active till mid-September. AC2 is more fun for "casual" players like me, AC is more of a powerleveler/macroer player game, you pretty much have to be pretty high level to do stuff, and the devs keep raising the bar on what the "typical" AC player is. I'm level 35 in there, and I'm considered "low" level. Go figure. But most players are probably 60-80. Good luck bein' a newbie there now too, cuz no one sells their loot in the NPC shops anymore, they either put it on a tradebot which charges singularity keys (which are pretty damn hard for a newbie to get), or they salvage their stuff. So, if you're a newbie, ya gotta either be a gimp or a twink. Not the kind of game I wanna play. Plus, I hate the "hassle" in AC of running around for ages to get where ya wanna go (it's better now, but still, if you're not a magic user, forget it), and every time ya die you lose stuff. I've lost about 400k worth of armor just in the month or so I've been back. Fortunately, the economy is so messed up making back that much isn't too insanely hard. But finding armor and stuff is. In AC2, I've completed all but one of the Osteth vaults (I've tried that blasted Prosper vault twice now but I get nuked each time, I guess maybe I should fellow for it.) I've also done the Osteth Soulbound weapon quest, and got my "l33+" newbie-land bow (107 dmg + a decent buff to missile mastery.) Now, if I could only find armor that didn't suck, I'm still wearing the gimpy AL26 robe I made when I was level 13 or something. But crafting is too damn expensive once ya get to tier 4 or higher, and it's a pain to max out the lower crafting levels so you will have a decent chance of success when it starts costing you money to make stuff. I do have a couple armor pieces that are a little higher, but my level isn't high enough yet to use them. I also think there's some armor quest too, but I haven't checked it out to see how hard it is. One nice thing though, is that bein' a bow-wielding elf, erm human, isn't gimpy in AC2, I can kill stuff solo that's higher than my level (23), and with my trusty level 26 lasher at my side, I can do even harder stuff. Red dots don't scare me! Well, some of 'em don't. Anyway, I did the saddle quest in Prosper Marches, and got my "pony" which isn't really that great since my trailblazing speed buff makes me go just about as fast, plus I can fight. But it is kinda fun riding along on a strange animal, and most monsters can't hit you, which is a good thing because since you can't fight back, it wouldn't be fun if they could kill you.
Me and my lasher, showing off my Soulbound bow. Also, notice how many hit points I have. Coincidence? I think not! (I had a vitae penalty at the time, from those icky skeletons who poison you for the pony quest.)
Me and my pony (Veldt ataur.) He's kinda ugly, and walks funny, but he's fun to ride. I've been fighting around the Lumari area, and ran up the Tou-Tou lighthouse today, not much of a view, and the town below is totally deserted, not even a lifestone that I could find. Just a whole lotta monsters who wanted to bite me on the way there. I went there partly to find dye plants, but haven't found any. The only ones I have found are bronze ones on Osteth, and I managed to dye my robe ... the same color it already was. Well, not quite, but close enough that it wasn't worth the effort gathering all those plants only to fail 4 of 5 tries. I guess I should work on my item improvement skills, huh? But that is more of a pain than crafting grrr. Anyway, not much else has been happening, one more week till school starts, damn I better stop staying up till 4am. Oh, and Mars is getting bigger and more impressive every day, I am tempted to bug an astronomy geek so I can look through his telescope! Too bad Griffith Observatory is closed for renovation, they had really bad timing on that one. Oh well, maybe my former Astro teacher will do a observation night. Oh! Speaking of teachers, my former Logic teacher (the computer/philosophy geek) is going to Stanford Law School. Eeek! I hope he doesn't wear his sandles to class.
