Saturday, August 16, 2003 Today I am feeling: bemused
Books I am reading: none at the moment Games I am playing: Asheron's Call [online RPG] Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings (free trial) [online RPG] I "won" Asheron's Call 2 today. Well, ok, not really, but I made level 20. Not bad for a 2 week free trial, eh? And my account still works for another day I think! Woot! I might get to finish the last 2 vaults tomorrow, one I'm not high enough level for (gotta be 21) and the other I just got distracted doing other quests. But now I'm done with the others so I can just putz around. The funny thing is, if I hadn't been on a free trial I probably would be level 6 or 7 now, instead of 20, but I was motivated, yannow? I even did quests that I hadn't done in beta!
I also trained ranger skills and got my very own pet lasher, who promptly died after attacking a level 23 crone. Heh oh well. He was only level 15. Poor thing, just a pup. I forgot lashers don't have bows or apparently brains. Anyway, here's a list of all I accomplished in my 2 weeks of freebie AC2: --Osteth Quests: Rescue The Shelter Hold Arwic Obelisk Search Lost Wish Obelisk Search Esper Obelisk Search Arwic Overseer Miller of Kehan Drudge Outcast Camp Cragstone Excavation Isle of Tears Warder Scout's Notebook Drudge Potion Raid Illuminated Manuscript Slavetaker's Head Broth of Tanacha Mist Opal Three Doctrines Rashan's Revenge --Incursions/Kill Things Quests: Armoredillo Doom Beetle Slayer Wasp Bane Rat Smasher Red Wasp Striker Tanglefoot Vermin Scamp Dank Vermin Watcher Green Wasp Striker Armoredillo Eggwatcher Grutt Filthmaster Reedshark Elder Hunter Terrible Lasher Cobalt Drudge Prowler Spymaster Brutal Fierce Lasher Drudge Mystic Mentor Enduring Gloom Drudge Darkenfowl Stray Scavenger (missed it by ONE minute grrr)
and maybe I'll finish the Burun Despoilment and Soulbound Weapons tomorrow, I already have the token for the weapon, thanks to all those drudges in the Illuminated cave. I also did a bit of exploring, just running around killing stuff but not a lot, most of my time was spent doing as many quests as possible. I also poked around a little on Omishan but quickly found I couldn't do the quests there, and I got tired of killing those mimbu things (although killing the chanticleers brought back fond memories of beta, I used to power level on those as a newbie, they're easy to kill and there used to be a lifestone right near a spawn point.)

Friday, August 15, 2003 Today I am feeling: amused
Books I am reading: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler E. L. Konigsburg Life Everywhere - The Maverick Science of Astrobiology D. Darling Games I am playing: Asheron's Call [online RPG] Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings (free trial) [online RPG] Well, the cat decided to go for a swim today. I asked her, as I stepped out of the house, if she would like to go for a walk with me to the mailbox to mail some letters. She ignored me, so I took that as a "no". So, I took off to the mailbox and came back not more than five minutes later, and there were waves in the pool. Huh odd, it's not windy. Then, in the patio, I see a big wet spot, hmmm ... even odder ... and then over in the corner near a bush, I see a wet little kitty furiously licking the icky pool water off herself. I laugh. I couldn't resist. She didn't seem to bothered by it, but gave me a dirty look when I asked "What's wrong, Kaia, did you fall in the pool?" Damn, the first time the cat falls in the pool, and I miss it. And she probably learned her lesson, too: every other cat I've ever had who has fallen or jumped into the pool has never, ever, done it again. I did teach her to avoid the pool when I first started letting her outside, and she's usually very careful, but my guess is she was chasing a bug alongside the edge and maybe the bug flew over the pool and kitty unthinkingly followed it. Or maybe she just mis-stepped, she is a bit of a klutz for a cat. In other news, there was a huge blackout on the east coast yesterday. Better them than us, here on the west coast, but hey, we had ours a couple years ago thanks to Gray Davis and his mismanagement of the "power crisis" which gave his minions perks. But that's another issue. Don't get me started on HIM. But in any case, it kinda makes ya wonder how ONE plant going out could cause power to go out in almost the entire state of New York, as well as several other states hundreds of miles away AND in Canada. Is the system that prone to failure? I'll bet the terrorists are taking notes. You'd think there would be a lot of redundancy built into the system, so if one part or two parts or even three parts fail, the other parts can re-route AND handle the increased traffic, even during peak use. Apparently, too many people were using their air conditioners or something. If I had air conditioning I'd use it too. Huh, who woulda thought? Anyway, I hope they fix it cuz every time there's a major blackout in New York, they claim it will never happen again, but it always does.

Monday, August 11, 2003 Today I am feeling: hot and annoyed
Books I am reading: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Freankweiler E. L. Konigsburg Life Everywhere - The Maverick Science of Astrobiology D. Darling Do What You Are - P. Tieger & B. Barron-Tieger Games I am playing: Asheron's Call [online RPG] Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings (free trial) [online RPG] Ok, this cat has got me ticked off, first she disappears overnight a couple weeks ago, then the other night, she pops in and says "Hi!" about 1/2 hour before "come inside it's almost dark" time but then disappears, and I can't find her ... it gets dark, finally I find her, on the roof, but she's either playing "Nah, nah, you can't get me!" or she's scared to come down. So I leave her up there, after trying feebly to get her down using a ladder and bribing her with treats. So, about 1/2 hour later I hear a "thump" sound like she makes when she jumps off the roof onto the fence, so I go out and snatch her and put her in her room. Then, a couple days later, she non-chalantly sneaks up on me while I'm calling her ... sans jingle. She has a bell on her collar, mostly to clue birds in she's coming, but it also makes a nifty way for me to find her or know she's coming by followig her jingle. But this time, all of a sudden a little furry cat appeared at my feet. Apparently, she had either lost or removed her collar. So ... now she has no collar (or ID tag or bell.) This means kitty gets to stay inside ALL day even if it is 100 degrees outside. She shoulda known better. But now I gotta make a trip to the pet store and pay too much for one of those "instant" ID tags or else I gotta order one which means kitty gets to stay inside for a week or more. Muhahaha. If it wasn't so damn hot in the house with no A/C I would probably do that. Well, if she didn't tear apart the room that is. So far (and it's only 11:51am) she's ripped my calendar on the wall, torn up one of my textbooks (from last semester, no refund now I guess), ripped a small hole in the bedsheet into a large hole, and swatted her grooming brush behind the dresser where I can't get it without major furniture moving. Can we say "behavior problems"? Hehe do they make training classes for cats? Or psycho-therapy? Poor thing though, she's a wild kitty, loves outdoors and it drives her nutso to be cooped up inside. In other news, I'm taking two more online classes through Barnes & Noble University. One is a find your perfect career kinda thing and one is a writing children's literature class. So, if you were wondering why I'm reading another kiddie book that's why, I got three books from the library, 2 of which were ones I read when I was a kid (Mixed up Files and also A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle) and also a newer one called The Giver by Lois Lowry which I'd started to read before but got distracted by life. I did notice, however, that the "young adult" section of the library is MUCH more sophisticated than when I was a kid. The stories used to be so innocent, about first crushes, or puberty problems or annoying friends; now they're about teen pregnancy and drug addiction and mental illness. No wonder 13 year old girls look 35 now. School starts in 3 weeks and I'm getting antsy. I gotta get back on a normal schedule soon though, no more staying up late till 2 or 3 am, cuz I will have morning classes, and I'll be taking the bus probably cuz I don't wanna hassle with the huge parking problems at the university. Amazingly, I would have to leave home earlier to drive than to take the bus, that doesn't happen very often. Anyway, I gotta go buy a new collar/bell/pet tag for my naughty minion.
