Today I am feeling: amused

God is mean ... well, ok, maybe it wasn't god, but ya gotta admit it's pretty funny that of all the people who picked 911 as their lotto numbers that day and were hopin' to win big bucks, they're probably somewhat disappointed to learn that because so many other insensitive people picked the same symbolic numbers hoping to cash in on misery, the cut per winner was only $500. So, maybe God was sayin' "Hey you, what you doin' pickin' dose numbers, eh? Don't you know dis is a sacred day in history now or what? I'm gonna punish you for bein' so insensitive, you only get enough to buy a few cups of coffee, how you feel about dat?" Or maybe it was the spirits of the dead people, sending a message to get off this 911 s*** already, sheesh. Or maybe, gee, I dunno, it was coincidence. I'll bet if ya went back and checked, there'd probably have been a few times when the lotto numbers were the same as the day's date. And for those of you who believe God picks lotto numbers, get over it! ;)

Today I am feeling: disgusted

Tomorrow is the "anniversary" of National Whine and Cry Victim Day, oh, sorry, I mean, September 11. Pardon my insensitivity but by listening to and watching the media you'd think we were all a bunch of sissies who can't cope. I dunno about you, but this is what I will be doing tomorrow to "commemorate" 9-11: Exactly the same things I do any day. I will drag my butt outta bed, cranky as usual, and rush to get ready for work, I will fight all the morons during rush hour traffic who believe traffic laws and common courtesy do not apply to them, I will sit on my ass all day long doing menial low-paid labor, then I will fight traffic home again, log onto the internet and play. The only thing I will be doing differently is I will not be watching tv. I am disgusted by all the commercialization and exploitation that's going on, especially with the "news" broadcasts. I am sick of being manipulated by the media, and scared by the government with its color-coded warning system and the need to announce publically that the vice president and president will not be making appearances as scheduled tomorrow. Frankly, I don't give a damn what they're doing as long as it's not bombing Iraq (but that's another rant topic all together.)

Now, I know a lot of people will be "mourning" the fallen tomorrow, but really, do we truly need to be bombarded over and over with the same devastating images we saw a year ago? How many of you honestly can't remember what the towers looked like when they fell? Personally, I think we should all be ordinary heroes tomorrow, we should go to work, school, whatever we'd normally do. We shouldn't take the day off, we shouldn't pull our children outta school for the day, we shouldn't light candles and pray that it won't happen again (because it will, no matter which god you believe or don't believe in), we shouldn't feel sorry for ourselves. If we want to, we can remember those who died, I have nothing against honoring someone's memory, but we should do it with dignity, not at a tacky gathering at the local car wash where they're giving away free red-white-and-blue candles. We should show the terrorists that they do not have power over us, they will not disrupt our lives, even for a day, they will not make us feel sorry for ourselves.

So, take a moment to remember the "heroes" of 9-11, those on flight 93, those at the Pentagon, those at the WTC, the firefighters, the ordinary people who helped out that day. But then move on with your day and your life. And hope that the next time it happens we won't get all weepy and pathetic so the terrorists can laugh at how weak we are.
