Saturday, July 27, 2002 I love Ultima Online, not only can I beg, camp, cook, sew, and fish but I can also grow plants! The first one I tried to grow died cuz I couldn't figure out how to cure it of pests and I overwatered it (kinda like what happens to my plants in real life) but my second one is a cute little

Friday, July 26, 2002 I dunno if I should be happy or sad. I logged into UO today to find my main character's murder counts reset to zero. A "royal pardon" so sayeth the Britannian News. So, I spent the day trying to redeem myself. Unfortunately, it seems most NPCs no longer give murder counts so now I'll have to resort to whacking newbies in Felucca! Thanks EA!! I also noticed that killing NPCs doesn't lower ones karma as much as I'd hoped either. Grrrr ... the life of a wicked wench is not easy. Oh, well, I did get some nifty pistachio green cloth as a reward for my sewing skills from a weaver in Skara Brae, so the day wasn't a total loss. <giggle>

Thursday, July 25, 2002 I was very bored today, so bored in fact, that I visited the Internet Archive Way Back Machine. For those of you not aware of this site, it's an archive of old webpages. It allows you to view the internet as it used to be, free from pop-up ads, annoying Java applets, and allows you to bask in the glory of the days when webpages stressed content rather than gimmicks. Well, ok, maybe not, but it's kinda cool nonetheless. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find an archive of my very first webpage, mostly due to the fact I can't remember the URL. But the archive only goes back to 1996 anyway (and there is very little archived back that far anyway), and since my first webpage was completed in 1995, I doubt it'd be there anyway. It was a Geocities page too, which means once I'd moved on to the spiffiness of CompuServe with my page, some other person woulda put their page up in my old spot anyway. It's ok, that old Geocities page was done before I knew HTML, and is in fact, the reason I learned HTML cuz the Geocities web page builder thingie was really, really crappy. I did find an old copy of my Geocities Japan webpage though, which I set up cuz I thought it was fun trying to sign up for a webpage when the form was in Japanese. And at the time I got it, there were no popup and scrolling ads on the Geocities Japan pages, unlike their annoying American counterparts. Unfortunately, none of the archived pages have anything of interest on them, but they prove my existence! Hehe.

Wednesday, July 24, 2002 My little beggar in UO is at 99.0 now, only one more point to go to GM beggar! So, soon, he will be one of only a few grandmaster beggars on Sonoma *and* the only bee trainer! ![]() All Ultima Online screenshots © Electronic Arts/Origin Systems, Inc.

I am now an officially certified computer geek and I have the piece of paper to prove it! Hehe I got my diploma in the mail today and it says I'm a "Microcomputer Programmer". Hehe that sounds so impressive. Actually I only got my certificate, not my AA degree yet, but the certificate is the same as an AA without the general education requirements. I figured I might as well apply for both cuz the requirements for the major are the same. I haven't gotten my AA degree in the mail yet though, but they said those don't go out until August and it's not August yet. Either that, or they looked at what I'd taken recently and said "uhm yeah k" and denied my request cuz they didn't bother to check all those stupid GE classes I took eons ago. I have transcripts though so if they send me the dreaded deficiency letter I'll just <whine> to them and show them my transcripts and drag the counselor who verified my GE stuff was met out to vouch for me. Hehe.

Tuesday, July 23, 2002 Oooh ooh ooh! Mandrake 9.0 is out! <trembles with anticipation> KDE 3.0.2 and Gnome 2.0! And some new compiler thingie or something. Yeah. Uhm ... k. All I hope is that supermount works right, I can't read my zip disks on Mandrake 8.1 cuz I tweaked some stuff and uhm ... well ... now I have 2 phantom non-mountable zip drives on my system. Heh. Oh well. I could do a reformat/re-partition/re-install and hope that works. But then Windows would whine again that someone has messed with its total domination of the boot sector and I'd have to smack it down repeatedly 'till shuts the f*** up. I need a job so I can afford a new computer for just Linux. <sigh> Maybe the Sims will work on Mandrake 9.0 too so I won't have to shell out big bucks for that gaming edition. Now, if someone would just make an online RPG like oh, Ultima Online, that works in Linux I'd be happy. (There used to be a Linux version of UO too, 'till the dev who ported it moved on or something, too bad, cuz UO is still my favorite RPG after all these years. It's the only game I don't get bored silly playing cuz I can do stuff like uhm ... beg and camp and cook and poison stuff! Yay!)

Sunday, July 21, 2002 Since I've been bored of late I've been playing UO again (other than just refreshing my house once a week) and I fired up the UO3D version today and I'd forgotten how freakin' ugly it is (see UO3D screenshot on top). I mean, check out my normally cute (see normal UO screenshot on bottom) little bone armor helmet I'm wearing, the UO3D one looks like it has ears, wtf is up with that? How many skulls have you seen with ears stickin' out of the top of 'em? How am I supposed to scare the NPCs wearin' ears??!?!! Sheesh, I'll never get my murder counts up to turn me red again now grrrrr. The good news is that UO now has a Guaranteed Gain System for skills so now my little beggar character on Sonoma can maybe finally make GM beggar someday ... he had been stuck at 98.0 since oh, about February 1999 but since last Sunday he's gone up .7!!! <happy dance>. The bad news is he'll never have a little beggar shack on Sonoma cuz the Powers That Be decided we can only have one house per account now, and there is no way in Sosaria I'm gonna give up my L33+ PK-ville "I 0wnz0rz 0cll0" house on GL, I mean I gotta have a place to work off my murder counts yannow. All Ultima Online screenshots © Electronic Arts/Origin Systems, Inc.
