I am feeling nostalgic today. I talked to my dad today, he's moving to Missouri (ick) and I started thinking about stuff cuz I'm gonna be going to the same university he used to teach at. My dad used to take me and my step-brother out there to uhm ... "play" while he was up in his office grading papers or something.

One way we used to "play" was to push all the buttons in the elevator on the bottom floor, then run out and wait non-chalantly while the elevator went to the top floor (which we could see because there was glass on the side of the elevator shaft) until a victim got into the elevator and had to stop on every floor on the way down. Now, normally, this would be just a silly childish prank, but we had the added bonus of the fact that some of the victims were instructors and some of these instructors knew my dad, so it added to the excitement of it all. And every once in awhile there'd be an instructor who was on their way (usually late) to a class and would have to stop at every floor on the way down, which usually resulted in them not only cursing once they finally got out (you'd be surprised at the vocabulary some college professors have) but would put them in a bad mood for their classes which I'm sure their students enjoyed immensely.

One other cool thing about the building my dad worked in was that it was open on the side: There was a glass wall about 3 feet tall along one side of an open walkway which was the perfect height for uhm ... "playing". The building itself was shaped kind of like an open square (albeit a weird one) so there was a courtyard kinda thing in the middle which, conveniently, was where the elevator let out. So sometimes if we got bored with the elevator game, we'd play the pelting game. We'd wait up on the top floor near the railing where we could see the exit to the elevator, and when we'd see someone come out we'd pelt them then back up outta view. The fact that the wall was glass helped immensely because we could see our victim from halfway back towards the wall which made hiding very easy. It also allowed us to observe the reactions of our victims, often the same professors whom we'd played the elevator game with. (For what it's worth, we never pelted people with anything dangerous, it was usually wadded up bits of toilet paper or something. <G>)

Another thing we used to do that was lotsa fun was go visit the psychology lab where they had fun stuff like rat brains in jars and rodents to play with, and there was a monkey with electrodes in its head too (I doubt they still have that, the animal rights activists would go nuts over something like that now). The monkey was quite nice, btw. The rats were nice too and some of them were pretty smart, probably smarter than some students. Well, maybe not. ;)

It'll be fun to go back to the school and check out some of the places I used to uhm ... "play" to see if they're still the same. I haven't been out there in about 10 years or so, I don't even know if that glass wall is still there, but if it is it'll be hard to resist. :P

I never thought I'd say this, but speech classes can be fun. :P Well, in a twisted kinda way. My speech class instructor is teaching us all kinds of ways to mess with people's heads using speech techniques. *Finally* a class where I'm learning useful information I can apply in the real world!

I had a happy fun day today yay! Well, kinda uhm ... well ... I got into a speech class at school, I wasn't registered cuz it was full when I tried to register so I had to pray to the almighty god o'green cards (not THAT kinda green cards, these are green class petition cards that are your ticket to academic enlightenment uhm ... they get ya into full classes) and my prayers were answered! Yay! I was the last one let in! Yay! That's 3 for 3 for the AGGC prayers, and 2 for 2 for "ok you're the last one I'm letting in". I may have to become a theist again or something. Anyway, I'm glad cuz this means I have one less class to take next semester to transfer to the University that won't let me in cuz they don't deem AA degrees worthy unless they are accompanied by transcripts stating you've taken math and English and speech. And if I'm feeling really masochistic this semester I can finish my math class in 4 weeks instead of 6 and take a *second* math class in summer! Yay! Uhm ... <cough> yeah. 13 units in summer would be like what, 26 in a normal semester? :P
