I saw Star Wars today. I think it should have been called "Attack of the Drones" instead of "Attack of the Clones". It was stupidly boring, the story sucked, the acting sucked worse than the last one (which I didn't think was even possible) and Jar Jar Binks was back! AAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! And he's apparently a cross-dresser now. Hehe. Anyway, the only thing I did like about this movie was the way they created the cities and stuff, the backdrops were nice, although I think they need to initiate a transport-pooling system because there seemed to be traffic problems in the city. And I liked the costumes. Well, most of 'em.

Speaking of costumes, what's up with the new Queenie's black & white stuff? Isn't black & white supposed to be the colors of the bad guys? Uhm ... huh ... wacky. You don't think the Queen's in on all this dark side stuff do ya? Nah ... that would be too obvious, kinda like how her clone was hanging out in the bar ... uhm ... right?

I also had a real hard time believing that Amidala is now a Senator, she just doesn't seem smart enough and corruptable enough, but maybe it was just the acting, maybe she really is evil or something, I mean she married Anakin, right? And he was wearing black already so we all know what THAT means. I totally didn't believe his "transition" though. But maybe they cut a buncha stuff outta the movie or something, I dunno.

Anyway, I'm very disappointed in George Lucas, he's totally sold out in my opinion. You'd think with them spending all this money on a big movie they know is gonna make a lotta money they'd splurge for good writers, actors and stuff. Even some of the special effects were cheesy, which is really sad given all the other Star Wars movies at least had that as their redeeming factor. Oh well, I guess I can look forward to the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies, I know they have at least a few good people working on it (those former Origin employees who used to work on Ultima Online.) And if it turns out half as good as Ultima Online did it'll be fun. Unless they ruin it like they did UO, but UO wasn't totally ruined until after the l33+ d3vz left. And 'till they fired all the counselors. <mutter>

Today is Memorial Day (the "real" one, not the "observed" one.) It was a day of mixed emotion for me.

This morning they held a ceremony at the WTC in New York marking the end of the cleanup there. The WTC remembrance was nicely done I thought, no words, only images, and the toll of bells at 10:29am, the time when the second plane crashed into the WTC. There were firemen escorting an empty stretcher with an American flag on it into an ambulance, which then drove off slowly from the site. The firemen cried. It was sad.

This afternoon was my Graduation from community college. The commencement speaker was a retired Fireman. There was an American flag, too, but no stretcher or ambulance. At the end of the ceremony they released a flock of white doves which flew away after circling a couple times. It was cool.

So I started my day in sadness and ended it in happiness. And a little bit of sitting-in-the-sun-wearing-black crankiness. I just hope it doesn't take as long to get my next degree as it took to get this one.

I sold back some of my books today at school - $600 worth of books and I got about $60 back for 'em. Oh, well, better than nothin' I guess. The thing that irks me though is why we even have to buy books that cost $60 or more each, I mean, sheesh, this is the digital age, why can't we just download them off the internet onto school-provided PDAs? Most ebooks are fairly inexpensive (although I'm sure textbooks would be more, the authors *know* they have a captive audience.) Even better, make all instructors write their own books and upload them to their websites for us to download for free. I mean, if they're knowledgable enough to teach a course they oughta be able to write a book on it, right? ::evil grin::

I found out about an interesting search engine today called Kart00, loads of fun, this; I typed in "catnip" and it brought up some interesting links and I'm almost ashamed to say I've actually visited Catnip Pizza before now. The cool thing about this search engine though is you can "see" how it works - it draws a map of how the different hits are connected to what you searched for, sorta like lookin' inside a bot brain or a neural net. It'll be fun to see if it takes off, I'd love to see a map with 60,000+ hits hehe.
