Saturday, May 25, 2002 I took my last final exam today yay! Easy. The instructor gave us hints in the multiple choice stuff for the slides we had to identify. And the wrong answers on the multiple choice stuff were so obvious you'd have to have been sleeping all semester not to get 'em right. I wish all tests were like this. I'm glad this semester is over though cuz I had *two* teachers this semester whose tests were vague. I hate that. I hate when they put a buncha choices then put 'none of the above' cuz I tend to be overly analytical so I find *anything* wrong with either the question or the answers then I mark 'none of the above' which usually ends up being wrong cuz the teacher wasn't thinkin' about someone being a nutcase taking their tests. Personally, I think all tests with 'all of the above' and 'none of the above' should be outlawed. Especially if the questions are not clearly written to begin with.

Friday, May 24, 2002 The impossible happened today. Microsoft announced that it will release a service pack for Windows XP that will allow users to *replace integrated portions* of the OS with 3rd party modules. ::faints:: So I guess they were *lying* when they said it was impossible to separate out things like Internet Explorer from the OS during their anti-trust proceedings? Heh. Anyway, we (well not ME since I don't have WindowsXP) will be able to get rid of IE, Outlook Express (yay!), media player (yay!), messenger (yay!) and the corrupted piece of crap MS calls its "Java Virtual Machine" (yipee yahoo!) without totally FUBARing our Windows installation. Supposedly. Heh. Yeah. Well, it's a step in the right direction anyway.

Wednesday, May 22, 2002 I found an interesting in a geeky-kinda way website today. You put in a list of words, and it suggests other things that would be part of the same set as the things you pick. I put in a list of things cats like (catnip, mouse, bunny, nap, fish), and this is what it came up with: Human C elegans Drosophila Yeast Arabidopsis AtDB Chicken Dog Cat mice Checkered Carpet Calico Cat Toys Sheep Goat Rabbit Guinea pig Rat Horse Elephant Dragon Puppy Kitty Dolphin man not bad, but I'm not so sure about that C elegans, Drosophila, Yeast and Arabidopsis AtDB, but wow! How did it know cats like Checked Carpet?!!?! Hehe.

Already took my anthropology test, dunno the score cuz the teacher hasn't *emailed me* yet. ::glare:: But I uhm ... don't really wanna know anyway. ;) Too bad I blew my GPA last semester or I coulda graduated with Honors. Heh. I suck. But yannow if they didn't make me count all those grades from years ago I'd have like a 3.9 GPA.

Tuesday, May 21, 2002 I was reminiscing today about the good old days on the internet. It was eight years ago that I made my first forays onto the wicked web. Well, only then I didn't have the web, I only had access to a dialup BBS. Wow, I am almost ashamed to admit that. Anyway, it was soon after that I got a "real" internet account ... well ... sorta ... it was a freenet account (and I still have a freenet account, for nostalgia's sake, there is nothing better than telnet I tell ya!) I remember the good old days of the web when there were NO ADS and NO SPAM EMAIL. I remember when ya had to use a text based browser (Anyone remember Lynx? Anyone still *use* Lynx? ::grin:: Besides me?) I remember when to view a graphic you had to select on a link, download it to your computer, open it up in an image viewer and look at it. Then, as now, 99.999999% of graphics on the web were a waste of bandwidth. But at least then people bothered to put descriptions on their images. I remember when a new browser called Mosaic came out. It was earthshattering. Well, maybe not, but now you could view something called "inline images" which meant you could actually see pictures *within* the web page! *And* get this, you could change text sizes and stuff! ::faint:: It was really very exciting lemme tell you. And the fact that all webpages had dull icky grey backgrounds didn't bother me at all. Then later there were more improvements made, stuff like font color tags, background color tags, background *image* tags, and my most favorite *transparency* in .gif files! And to think that years later, only the lowly .gif file has transparency. ::sigh:: Oh well, I hear they're coming out with a new fangled .jpeg format soon ... I think they've been working on it for about 7 years. I think it used to be called .png ... well, maybe not. Anyway, I remember when Netscape first came out, when Java was new, when Internet Explorer didn't exist, when there was no such thing as a banner ad or a pop-up ad or a pop-under ad ... and none of them were patented, either. I remember when the only thing bots were used for was good things, I remember when you had to pay $4.95/hour for internet access ... wait, that's not a good thing. Hehe well I guess there's ONE good thing about the internet now. :P
