Today I am feeling: fine

Books I am reading:
The Years of Rice and Salt Kim Stanley Robinson

Games I am playing:
Sim City 4 Rush Hour

I took my kitty to the vet today for oh boy! Shots! Yay! Poor kitty was not happy, she had to get three shots, but she didn't bite anyone, they said she was a "very good girl". The good part is one of the shots she won't have to have again for 3 years, so next year she only needs to get two. Plus I got a free bonus Rabies vaccination certificate so as long as I move before January 14, 2007 she'll be "legal". Other than that kitty is fine, we've had nice weather the last few days so she's been out chasing bugs and whatnot although she is becoming more of a homebody, sometimes she doesn't want to go outside even when given the chance, which is good, plus when she does go out she usually stays in the yard, which is fine with me.

In other news, the grocery strike is still going on, and supposedly the picketers are back at Ralphs, haven't noticed though since I haven't shopped recently, but given there were usually only 4-5 picketers at the stores before, if some of them go back to Ralphs that means it'll be more like 2-3 per store. I think the picketers should just all get together and call their union en masse and DEMAND the union let them vote again on the offer from the stores, any offer, even the most recent and not as good revised offer from last month. Even if the strike does end in "favor" of the union, most of the stores will close anyway and those employees will be out of a job (those that haven't either already gone back or gotten new jobs by now) and the consumers are gonna get screwed no matter what happens. Speaking of Ralphs though, last time I was there I noticed a change of ownership notice on the door, but I dunno if it's related to the strike or what, or who is gonna own them, might just be they'll change to a Kroger's which is the parent company. But it would be cool if they put something like a Trader Joe's in there, I love Trader Joe's (and that has nothing to do with the strike either.) But it might just be a mini-Wal*Mart or something.

Lemme see what else ... school starts in a week and a half ... oh! There was a MacWorld conference last week and all the Mac Geeks were all atwitter about rumors they'd heard of a new tiny cheap iPod that was going to be announced and they were all hoping it would be about $100 and I was thinkin' hell Apple is greedier than Microsoft, no way they'll sell anything that cheap, they make their junk in Taiwan with cheap 50-cent a day labor (ok maybe not that cheap but they're not paying Union wages, I guarantee you that) then they sell it for about twice what it's worth in the real world. But alas, even I was hoping the rumors would be true, cuz I dig those little iPods, but they're way outta my budget (and they won't run on my crappy computer anyway) but if they had been $100 or less I woulda put them on my "I'll get one when I get a new computer" list. But alas, Apple, in its marketing brilliance, released the new 4 gig Mini iPod for $249 ... which is only $50 less than the 15 gig model of the normal iPod. So, as many people noted, why would you buy a $249 4 gig pod when for "only" $50 more you could get one with 15 gigs? As I said, marketing brilliance. Not only does Apple sell a few mini pods to the trendy folks, lots of people who woulda bought the old 10 gig at $299 will now buy the 15 gig pod for the same price and think they're getting a deal! And the mini pods will become collector's items like the G4 cubes they came out with a few years ago. I do gotta say though, I like the design of Apple stuff [hardware and software] but I'm not rich so I can't afford both a PC and a Mac and well, I could buy 2 PCs for what one Mac would cost, or I could buy 1 PC and a carload of games and software. But I am kinda tempted to get one of those little iBook things, they're cute and actually cheaper than most laptop PCs ... and I could almost get one of them plus a barebones basic PC for what it would cost me for a "good" PC. I'm kinda tempted ... but I gotta wait and see what happens with school cuz I gotta make sure I'll have enough money to finish. Ah, the joys of being a poor loan-dependent student. Hopefully I'll get a decent summer job, I hear the grocery stores might be hiring ....
