Wednesday, November 26, 2003 Today I am feeling: pissed

James Davis Literature of the Western World Brian Wilkie/James Hurt Games I am playing: no time now I went to Albertsons again today to buy stuff and I dunno what it is, but the strikers were very uhm ... shall we say "vocal" today. Usually, the strikers at Albertsons are pretty cool/polite, but today there were a buncha guys (probably Teamsters) harassing the customers as they went into the store. It was so bad there were cops there watching stuff, cuz apparently some old guy called them cuz the picketers were harassing him. Now, the picketers weren't hitting people that I saw, but one of the store employees inside said they were getting "violent" today. I think maybe they realize they're losing so they have to stoop to gradeschool tactics. I just did a "thumbs down" gesture as I walked in, which made them more vocal. Then I did it again on my way out and one guy said, "Oh, well that's not NICE!" and I almost said back "It's not nice to harass people trying to do their shopping either." But I refrained. Yay for me! I find it really amusing though they act like 5 year olds. I have no problem with people picketing, but when they try to harass me or keep me from doing what I want/need to do, then I think it just hurts their cause. The writing is on the wall, Wal*Mart is coming, these people need to get a clue and realize that if they don't accept the very generous offer made by the stores, they'll be working at Wal*Mart for $6.25/hr and Z-E-R-O benefits. I also noticed a few groups of teenagers inside the store putting stuff into their backpacks, and I reported them to the employees, I dunno if they caught them though (probably not, but maybe the coppers outside got 'em.) It wouldn't surpise me if the union bribed a few of the high school kids from across the street to go in and steal stuff. Or maybe the kids just figure the new hires are dumb and won't catch 'em. Anyway, I take a look at each of the picketers as I go in/out and make a mental note of who they are so I can avoid them if/when they get re-hired at the store, or better yet, get hired at McDonald's or Wal*Mart.
