Saturday, November 15, 2003 Today I am feeling: ok
Books I am reading: The Shock of the New Robert Hughes Human Variation Stephen Molnar Who is Black? F. James Davis Literature of the Western World Brian Wilkie/James Hurt Games I am playing: no time now I rented Finding Nemo today and it was cute, and that movie made me cry! Over a fish! Sheesh, cheap Disney emotional manipulation. I also cried because my search for a starfruit failed. I have to find a fruit to paint for my rendering class, and I wanted to find a starfruit cuz they're cool and make little stars when ya slice 'em, but alas, a starfruit I could not find, and I went to several stores and even crossed picket lines at Pavilions, where the meanie picketers lurk and leer and block traffic, but at least they keep moving, unlike the picketers at Albertstons who just sit around on their rears eating Cheetos and smoking under their little tent thingie in the parking lot. But if they're smoking and snacking, they're not harassing, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Speaking of the strike, I read on the news site today that the 3 stores that are on strike or locking out union employees are gonna share the wealth, so that shopping at Ralphs will benefit Albertsons and Vons. Woot! So now, the union will either have to put pickets back at Ralphs which will make shoppers pissy cuz the holidays are coming, or they'll just have to give up, cuz their tactics are not effective. I think the union needs to just admit they lied to their members and just suck it up and accept the very decent offer made by the stores in October. Of course what will probably happen is they WILL accept that offer but they'll lie to the union members and claim they negotiated for months to get them this great offer and see how great we are, we work for YOU. You can tell I just love unions, can't ya? I'm tempted to boycott all union grocery stores after the strike is over, but while it's still on, I'm patronizing the ones who locked out the union, to show my support for them, and besides, they have great deals at Albertsons, although Ralphs has really jacked their prices up and Pavilions has had jacked prices since they remodeled a year or so ago.
