Today I am feeling: infumigated

Books I am reading:
The Subtle Knife Philip Pullman
Voyages Through the Universe Fraknoi/Morrison/Wolff

Games I am playing:
SimCity 4

I had my first painting class today at school. We spent almost 6 hours mixing colors, yes, it was like kindergarten all over again: red + blue = purple, etc. We could only use red, yellow, blue, black and white and had to make a whole mess (literally) of colors, doin' the secondary, tertiary thing, makin' tints and shades of those, doing value scales of greys and other colors, makin' skin tones, etc. I've never been that great at paying attention mixing colors, I usually just kinda mix stuff till it "looks right" but then I don't remember exactly how I got it, but this thing we did in class we had to write down what we mixed to get what. Pain in the erm ... palette. Hehee. But I learned some things, like mixin' yellow + red + blue in the right amounts gives a lovely diarrhea color. And in another proportion gives a yummy chocolate pudding color. So, when I next need to paint diarrhea or chocolate pudding, I'll know how to make the color! I also learned that I will most likely need to buy more paints cuz those little 37ml tubes are kinda, well, little. Of course if I'd mix in some medium with 'em they'd last longer but the teacher kinda wanted us to use "pure" color right outta the tube (unless we whined then we could thin it). But I intend to thin from now on cuz I don't wanna spend another $200 on oil paints anytime soon.

I also learned that odorless turpentine substitute smells better than that junk called Liquin ya mix with paints. Hehee that stuff was givin' me a headache, even with the good ventilation they got out at school. But my headache isn't that bad, not nearly as bad as the one I got in my Thursday night class when all the lamerz were sprayin' adhesive or spray paint INSIDE the classroom (which is against rules but the teacher is a doofus and didn't make 'em go outside till people started complaining). Sheesh, like bein' an art student isn't hazardous enough when yer careful, we don't need more fumes thank you.

Anyway, art is fun but messy and cleanup sucks. Next week in my painting class we get to paint still lifes! Yay! <mutter> Man, I got really tired of still lifes in beginning drawing, painting 'em is gonna be worse cuz we gotta mix all those stupid grey tones. At least charcoal is easy. Oh well, maybe I'll just pick one piece and "zoom in" real tight and just paint like a one inch square blown up (in other words, just paint the canvas one shade of grey). Teacher probably wouldn't like that though.

In other news, the kitten tried to dive through a window the other day. She ran along and jumped from the couch, to the dining table and through the window, well she tried, unfortunately for her the window was CLOSED so she just kinda did the big THUMP clunk thing. Then she shook her head and kinda licked her paws and wiped her face, poor thing. But it didn't seem to bother her much, she seems pretty indestructable. Hopefully she'll learn not to repeat that "trick" though. I don't want her doin' it when she weighs another couple pounds or she might actually make it through the window and end up wipin' blood off her little face and me havin' to pay a big vet bill. Speaking of vets, the kitten gets spayed soon muhahahaha. She'll just love that. Hehe.

I finally finished reading that first book in the His Dark Materials series, and just barely started the second. The first one was pretty boring up until maybe the last 30 or so pages, the book seems mostly like a setup for the story so hopefully the second book won't be as tedious to get through as the first. And if it is, the new Harry Potter book comes out in a few months (right near by birthday in fact yay!) so that'll give me something to do like I need it.

In SimCity 4 I've been makin' my own world maps for it, I tried to make a LlamaLand one but the game kinda tweaked it at the city map edges and messed up my llama's fur. Grrr, don't you just hate that? So I'm not sure how to remedy it, there's no real way using ingame tools to get a "fur" effect so I may just have to leave him mutated. Or just make him without fur. I've already gotten bored with the game itself though, it's not "fun" unless ya cheat and even with cheats it's boring, at least for me cuz I'm used to a quick fix, not an hours upon hours ordeal just making a tiny town. I do like how ya can put houses on hills and stuff though, the game builds tiny "stilts" for 'em so they line up with streets. And it's fun to build a nuclear power plant in your town then blow it up with a mushroom cloud and make it all sparkly (radioactive fallout). And volcanoes are kinda fun but only the first time or two.
