Today I am feeling: grumpy

Welp, my computer seems to have decided that it doesn't like my "new" video card that I bought a few months ago. I've been having sporadic problems with it since I installed it, I thought it was because of my crappy computer with its onboard video which is supposed to automatically disable upon installation of a video card in a slot. And maybe it is, I dunno, but in any case, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. But finally, it decided not to, so I plugged the monitor back into the onboard thingie (that's the technical term for that little doo-dad where you plug the plug in) thinking (wrongly) that it would boot to the onboard video since it's Plug and Play. But alas, apparently having a video card in a slot does disable the onboard video, so now, neither would work. Lovely. So, I put the cat in her "penalty box" (kitty carrier used for time outs) and yanked all the cords from the computer box, opened it up, sucked out all the dust bunnies, and pulled the card. Then I plugged it all back in and rebooted, yay it went back to "normal" so I tried to pretend I'd just gotten the card and followed directions on how to install it. But alas, the computer wouldn't detect the card ... hmmm ... so I'm thinking maybe it's not my crappy computer, it's the card. Maybe Sims Online killed it! Hehe. So, I pulled the card again, and went back to onboard video while I tried to find if the card has a warranty that might still be valid, and, according to their website, it has a "lifetime warranty". Oooh! Cool! Then I remembered that the company that makes the card went outta business hehe. Ooops. Well, their website *is* still up, so I'm debating if I should file a "your hardware is crap" complaint with tech support hoping they'll ok an RMA and send me a new card. Or I could go through Amazon.com and <whine> cuz they're pretty good at fixing customer whining, especially since I alone have bought enough stuff from Amazon.com to pay an employee's salary for a year or two. Hehe. Well, not really, but I've been a customer of theirs since the dark ages when they didn't have online ordering, you used to have to send *email* or *snail mail* to order stuff! Anyway, I'll think about it. I don't really "need" my new video card at the moment since the AC2 beta is over and that's the main reason I needed it. SOL (great abbreviation) still works with my old video, so I'm cool there. And I have no money to buy any of the l33+ new 3D games so I don't need it for them either. The good news in all this though is I can use linux again yay! For some reason, linux went nutso with my new video card, cuz I hadn't configured it or something, I dunno, but apparently linux doesn't have an auto-detect thingie on install of new hardware. I didn't try re-installing linux though it mighta worked then, but I didn't wanna chance it. Anyway, I can now use linux again, and I'm tempted to get a copy of Everquest and try it since I read it now works on linux <faint>.
