Today I am feeling: gloomy
California is doomed. We have an election for governor coming up in about a month and the two leading candidates are, to put it mildly, less than stunning. Take for instance, the current governor, Gray Davis, whose cartoon portrait on his official web page pretty much sums it up. He is the one who got us so successfully through that "power crisis" that blew through a multi-billion dollar budget surplus and left us billions of dollars in debt, thanks Gray! We now will get to pay higher sales taxes to help reduce the deficit, which as we all know was not in any way the responsibility of the current governor, it just wasn't, I swear! *cough* yeah ok. Anyway, his nearest opponent is Bill Simon whose web page I can't comment on because it requires scripting be turned on and I don't trust politicians with javascript, sorry Bill. Now, Mr. Simon would be a possible choice for me to vote for (as a protest vote against what I perceive as the total ineptitude of Governor Davis) if it weren't for this. Now, if you were a former prosecuting attorney, you'd think you'd know the law fairly well, like those slander laws, yannow? I swear, we have a couple of monkeys running for governor here. And that is an opinion, not slander. It would amuse me, however, if it was the Davis people who released that photograph, and Simon fell for it. But in any case, I fear for California if either of these guys gets elected. I think I may have to vote Green again, as a way of protesting the two major parties in this country, both of which I feel are sinking into the same general pile o'poo that the rest of America seems to be, what with the media and corporate America running things (anyone notice that some network affiliates censored, erm, pre-empted the President's speech on Monday?), and the general attitude of entitlement and rudeness most Americans seem to have developed in the last couple decades. I am sick of the whining and lying and game-playing these people engage in. They're supposed to be models of propriety for the rest of us, not a reflection of us. Or maybe that's what's wrong, they're copying us rather than setting the example. What happened to the good old days when Americans had ethics and decency? God, I must be getting old or something.
