Wednesday, August 14, 2002 I didn't install my video card ... cuz I didn't GET it yet. I thought I got it, the Amazon.com box arrived and it was about the right size so I assumed. I unplugged my computer of all its wires and peripherals, yanked it outta its little cubby hole in my desk and plopped it down on my table, opened it up, blew all the dust outta it, then went and opened the box. Uhm ... k ... this box was about 14 x 5 x 12 inches, and guess what was in it? A calendar! Hehe. Sheesh, now if you were Amazon.com would you waste a big ol' box for a calendar? Or would you use a mailer envelope? Well, apparently Amazon.com doesn't use mailers (I've never gotten anything from them not in a box, ever.) The wacky thing is, the video card was sent on Saturday and the calendar was sent Monday. Today is Wednesday. And I used that "free shipping" thing where ya gotta use UPS and have 'em send your entire order at once (which obviously they didn't do) but the calendar was sent via the post office. They upgraded shipping! Hehe they used to do that all the time, I learned never to choose anything but standard shipping cuz they usually upgraded it to 2nd day air gratis. But then they stopped doing it a couple years ago. But I guess if all your stuff doesn't fit in one box when ya do that free shipping thing, they upgrade ya or something. Ok by me. But I'd rather they had done it with the video card, I don't need my calendar until January. :P Thankfully though I've taken my computer apart so many times, I can not only do it in my sleep but it takes me about 3 minutes to put the cover back on and stick all the plugs back in. I didn't bother to plug in my zip drive, pen tablet, printer or digital camera usb cable though cuz I knew I'd have to yank 'em again in a day or two anyway, and I didn't stuff the box back into the cubby hole cuz it's a pain in the uhm ... elbow to reach way up there and plug in the power cable. Why they put those darn things at the TOP of the box is beyond me, cuz most desks and stuff are open at the bottom, not the top. Oh well. So, now I wait and hope my card comes tomorrow. It's in La Grande Vista, California right now, wherever that is.
