Friday, June 28, 2002 Wow, flashback time. Today is the 30th anniversary of Atari. I used to have an Atari pong game. Hehe. And later an Atari 800 computer, which I bought cuz I thought it was better than my Commodore VIC-20 computer. I really wanted the Atari 1200 but it was too expensive. I think the Atari 800 cost me about $500 but I rarely used it for anything but playing games because its BASIC programming language *sucked*. The Atari had I think 8k of RAM and my VIC-20 had 3.5k but I could write longer programs on my VIC. I'd always run outta memory on the Atari after spending *hours* typing the darn things in. The VIC rocked though, it had a lotta capability for its 3.5k and you could abbreviate commands which saved tons of memory, so instead of typing in PRINT for instance you could just type P. That's a huge savings. Anyway, I wish I'd kept my old Atari and my old beloved VIC-20. I learned to program on my VIC (well, sorta more like I learned to type in programs from Compute! magazine and debug them and modify the sprites and stuff. The only things I could program from scratch were dumb things like a thing that listed all my records.) I wish I'd gotten a Commodore 64 computer too (I wanted one of those too but couldn't afford one) cuz then I coulda gotten on the internet! I remember reading about the internet and 300 baud modems in Compute! magazine back in the dark ages and thinking it sounded way cool. Too bad I didn't stick with computers back then I coulda been a l33+ d3v now or something instead of a loser. Hehe.
