Saturday, February 09, 2002 Today I witnessed a crime and reported it. Sorta. I was in a fast food restaurant getting a snackie after school and 3 boys were ahead of me in line and asked for cups for water from the clerk (they didn't pay anything for the cups) and then went and filled their cups with soda from the machine in the restaurant (the do it yourself type dispensers a lot of places have these days). I watched them all while they did this while I was waiting for my order. Then the boys started making remarks about me, most likely because they'd seen me watching their illegal act and felt guilty, so they had to alleviate their guilt by shifting their focus to something else by whistling at me and making remarks alluding to my womanli-ness. Either that or they thought I was hot. :P Uhm ... yeah. ::cough:: Anyway, these remarks made me think hmm ... they're really annoying buttheads so I'm going to be an annoying butthead too ... so I walked over to them and politely asked, 'Are you drinking water or soda?' To which they all replied 'water' despite the fact that I could plainly see bright red Hawaiian Punch in one cup (the others had drank most of theirs, ie destroyed the evidence, smart kids!) Then I briefly glared at the culprits and told them I was going to report them, which I did. But being typical babies that most young teenage boys are (ie they couldn't face the fact they'd been caught) they proceeded to high-tail it out the door, and onto their spiffy bicycles and left. The clerk didn't seem too bothered by this when I told him they'd stolen soda and looked even less bothered when I suggested that perhaps they might not want to serve these young men next time they entered the restaurant. Am I the only one who still cares about stuff like this? Or has society just reached the point where it really truly doesn't matter who you steal from or lie to or screw as long as you get what you want? I must be getting old or something. ::sigh:: Oh well, maybe on their bike rides home to mommy they'll think about that thirst-quenching drink they *stole* and feel guilty enough to come back to the restaurant and pay for it. But probably not. Hopefully, maybe, karma will kick their butts though, someday, sometime, like maybe when some teenager steals their bicycle and laughs at them for being stupid and not locking it up. ;)
