Thursday, October 04, 2001 Well, I have done a dastardly deed, I have called up my cable company and ordered cable internet. ::sigh:: They brainwashed me with their invasive television, mail and internet ads, and I believe now that I *must* have cable internet. They have won. Actually, I wouldn't have done it but for two things: 1) free installation and a monthly fee only three lousy dollars more than my crappy ISP and 2) the fact my school took out all the zip drives so I can't download any file bigger than 1.4 megs anymore (unless I wanna carry around more than the 11 floppies I already carry around with me for the classwork I do.) Oh, make that three reasons: Upcoming betas for games that will have 500+ meg downloads. So, now I must wait a week and pray they don't trash my Windows installation during install and pray that ME works with the free NIC card the cable company supplies. Oh, well, if worse comes to worst, I can just install Linux. ::giggle:: ~~~~~~~~ In other news, I was watching Oprah earlier this week and she had a show on about should we go to war or not and I started thinking again. Personally, I tend to be a pacifist so normally I don't support war, especially when we go to war in other countries and support rebel regimes like, oh, say the Taliban who were at one time not so long ago fighting the evil Russians. Odd how now the Taliban is the enemy, huh? Anyway, just my thoughts on it all, I have always felt that we should only go to war to defend our own country's borders, and the terrorist attacks were within our borders, but the enemy is not (well actually they are but I don't think we're gonna bomb Miami or San Diego or wherever these 'cells' are.) So, our wise and omniscient president has said we are going to smoke some rats outta their holes in Afghanistan. Or words to that effect, after all, no one has a problem with exterminating vermin, right? Well, almost no one. So now, my mind is atwist and I don't know how I feel, I think we *should* take action, but I don't think we should just bomb the hell outta Afghanistan. I think that will just escalate retaliation and fuel the fires of the extremists who feel America is Evil and we will just prove their point if we kill innocent children and women and rats. So, my plan is this, we should begin Operation Pied Piper ... we send charismatic rat hunters into Afghanistan, into the villages, and lure the rats out with sweet music and snacks, and promises of 99 virgins in heaven, then we let them sacrifice themselves to Allah under a full moon in the desert. Ok, so maybe that won't work, but in all seriousness, I think sending in ground troops is the way we should go, we need to extract and eliminate the Taliban and perpetrators of terrorist acts wherever they are found. Is it possible? I don't know. Is it necessary? Yes. And you all thought the 'Drug War' was hard. ;)
